Core Group : Sanjeev Chimmalgi
Sanjeev Chimmalgi Audio Excerpts    Sri Sanjeev chimmalgi is one of the most prominent and promising Hindustani classical singers of his generation. He has been singing professionally since his early twenties and has performed all over the country as well as in the UK and the US. His concerts are noted for the fluidity and grace with which he presents a raga and the delicacy of his approach to bol and svar. His classical music is evidence of his dedication to the values of simplicity, lucidity and refinement and shows an ability to simultaneously imbibe various important aspects of the Gwalior and Kirana styles. He has also been an ardent explorer of more popular forms, like that of the bhajan, the film-song and contemporary fusion.

Sanjeev began training at the age of twelve under Ms. Krishna Lahiri and Sri Prabhakar Gune. He then received in-depth exposure to the Kirana style, under the guidance of Pandit Madhav Gudi, leading disciple of the Kirana Maestro Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. The longest and most rigorous phase of his training was under the tutelage of Pandit C R Vyas who taught him numerous traditional compositions and rare raga-s, and initiated him in the art of composition-oriented development that is so central to the Gwalior style. Sanjeev has also shown considerable interest in Carnatic music and is currently studying under vidvans Smt. T.R. Balamani and Sri Balachandran. He is also learning ‘Konnakol’ under mrindangam vidwan Sri T.S. Nandakumar.

Sanjeev Lives in Vashi where he teaches music in the Guru-shishya parampara. He is devoted to passing on the language of Raga and taal and the nuances of Hindustani music to talented aspirants: ‘I have made an attempt’, he says, ‘to keep alive the guru-shishya system in which I received my training. There are no formal degrees, musicianship is the only certificate I recognise, and the training I give is on a one-on-one basis and performance-oriented.’
